The youngster was on target against Athletic

Pedri put on a show for Barcelona against Athletic on Wednesday night, scoring his third goal of the season to make it 1-1 after Inaki Williams had opened the scoring.

The 18-year-old stooped to head past goalkeeper Unai Simon after good work from Lionel Messi and Frenkie de Jong.

Pedri spoke to reporters after the game and said he thinks it’s the first header he’s ever scored.

“We knew it was an important game. We knew they would look for Inaki with his speed and that’s how they scored the first goal but we got past that and took three very important points

“If you concede a goal early you can drop your heads, but we showed a lot of self belief and that didn’t happen. I don’t think I’ve ever scored a header before in my life. I followed the ball into the box and was able to finish.”

The youngster didn’t stop there though. He produced another brilliant assist for Messi to make it 2-1 before half-time and also spoke about the move afterwards.

“Leo’s first goal was a super fast move. He went behind me and shouted at me, otherwise I’d not have seen him. Luckily the keeper had come out and it went well.

“I’m very happy because of my performance and even more so because we won. The season is long and we will keep fighting for top spot.”

Messi added a third to secure the three points, although he also gifited the ball away late on which allowed Iker Munain to pull one back.

It’s a good win for Barcelona that moves the team up into third place in the table. Next up for Ronald Koeman’s men is a trip to Granada on Saturday.
