Another title for the boss

Xavi picked up yet another trophy with Al Sadd on Sunday as his team beat Umm Salal 3-0 to be crowned champions of the QNB Stars League.

The team have won the title with four games left to play and are unbeaten after 18 matches. Xavi’s men are also the top scorers with 69 goals and are 13 points clear of nearest challengers Al-Duhail.

Al Sadd have already won the Prince Cup and the Qatar Cup this season. They are also in the semi-final of the Emir Cup, and have the Asian Champions League to come.

Xavi celebrated the win with a post on Instagram. He wrote: “WE ARE THE LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!The QNB Stars League is ours, #AlSadd What a season! Really proud of this amazing team.”

Xavi has now won six titles since taking charge of the Qatari side less than two years ago after hanging up his boots. The challenge for the team now will be to complete the league season without losing a game.

The Barcelona legend spoke about his pride at his latest triumph and hinted he could be set to continue at the club past this season.

“I am happy to be in this group of players, officials, technical and medical staff. Our goal is to win all the tournaments we participate in. Special thanks to the fans of Al Sadd who supported the team with full force throughout the season and also in the championship match against Umm Salal, and we promise them to continue working to make them happy and win more championships for the club.”

Xavi is, of course, regularly linked with a Camp Nou return but it remains to be seen if he’s in new president Joan Laporta’s plans. The new chief has said recently he still enjoys a good relationship with Xavi but feels he needs more experience before he returns.
