The Brazilian’s absence has been longer than expected

Philippe Coutinho may have already played his last minutes in an FC Barcelona shirt. The Brazilian playmaker, the club’s record transfer, has been out with a knee injury since the last match of 2020, against Eibar. Originally, he was supposed to be out for three months. He should have been ready to return around this time. Instead, his return has been delayed.

According to Catalan media, he had to receive another procedure to his left knee. But even that hasn’t fixed the problems. The player is now in the hands of the Brazil national team doctor, Rodrigo Lasmar, who removed a cyst from Coutinho’s knee.

After the intervention in Belo Horizonte, he went to Rio de Janeiro to rest. It’s understood that he will not come back for Barcelona’s remaining games this season and is a doubt for Brazil in this summer’s Copa America.

“He underwent two surgeries in Barcelona, but needed a new procedure performed to correct the injuries. An arthroscopy was performed to treat a lesion in the lateral meniscus and also the removal of a cyst in the knee,” Lasmar said.

“His return to football will depend on his evolution to treatment. As it is a third surgery, we must be more cautious and we will not make any kind of prognosis.”

With rumors buzzing that Barcelona are desperate to move on Coutinho’s massive contract, there is a chance that the Brazilian has in fact already kicked his last ball in a blaugrana shirt.
