Barça are looking for a shock deadline day deal

Barcelona are reportedly in advanced talks to sign Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani on Deadline Day, according to the ever reliable Gerard Romero and other outlets in Spain. Barça were rumored to be looking for a striker over 30 years old at the end of the window, and the 34-year-old Uruguayan seems to be the choice.

Romero says Barça and the player are very close to an agreement and the club is working with Manchester United on a deal that fits Barça’s complicated financial situation. United could be willing to let Cavani go having just signed Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus, and they wouldn’t be able to command a high transfer fee given Cavani is in the last year of his contract.

The negotiations “aren’t simple”, according to Romero. Barça don’t have that much money and English clubs are notoriously difficult sellers, but Cavani himself is pushing for the move which could help convince United to let him go at a smaller number. United are saying no for now, but there are over 11 hours left in the window and Barça and Cavani will try their hardest to make it happen.

This Deadline Day just got a lot more interesting.
