The Catalan giants have a host of impressive youngsters in their ranks currently such as Ansu Fati, Pedri, Gavi, Sergino Dest, and Ronald Araujo.

Alves says the players have the quality to be the best but need to learn from their manager.

“These young players have one of the best people they could have looking after them. He’s someone from here and now he’s here as a coach,” he said.

“He’s the best teacher that they can have. They need to learn the best from him, to get the best from him, they need to take in everything he’s teaching without losing their pesonalities and put their heart and soul into this work.

“They need to surround themselves with poeple who want them to be a top player because they have the qualities but it depends on them. We are just here to help them, to help them become top players and make sure they make history at this club for many years, for us Cules it will be the biggest pleasure.”

The 38-year-old also spoke about Barcelona’s difficulties this season and called on the players to be united as they aim to get the club back to winning ways.

“Now we are in moment of transition, things are going the way they are but things will get better. We need to be positive, have excitement about the future,” he added.

“Barca for me is one of the most resilient clubs I know. It always has this capability to reinvent itself. So we need to hold onto his faith, the power of this club to get back to where it needs to be.
