‘It can’t be’ - Gavi left devastated by knee injury
The midfielder’s season looks to be over
Barcelona midfielder Gavi has been left devastated after suffering a serious knee injury while playing for Spain against Georgia on Sunday.
The teenager had to be taken off in the first half and looked pretty distraught as he left the pitch.
An initial examination by doctors Claudio Vázquez and Óscar Luis Celada has left Spain fearing Gavi has torn his ACL, a diagnosis he initially refused to accept.”
“It can’t be, it can’t be, I have to play!” he said when told of the news in the dressing room, according to Relevo.
Spain boss Luis de la Fuente confirmed as much after the game when he was asked about his midfielder: “He [Gavi] was broken, shattered, he didn’t understand that this could happen to him.”
Gavi was spotted back in Barcelona at dawn this morning on crutches after returning to the city with Inigo Martinez. He will now undergo further tests with Barca expected to confirm his injury later today.

It’s thought that Gavi will be out for around 6-8 months, ruling him out of the rest of the season and Spain’s European Championship campaign.
