Laporta discusses Barcelona’s plans to replace Gavi
The midfielder is out for the rest of the season
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has spoken about how the club plan to cope without Gavi for the rest of the season.
Gavi’s been ruled out for the long-term with a knee injury, prompting speculation Barca could dip into the transfer market in January to sign a replacement.
Deco has already played down suggestions of a new midfielder, and Laporta says he trusts his sporting director and first-team coach to reach the right decision.
“We’ve very competitive squad and Xavi has enough elements to continue having a good campaign,” he said.
“We trust the sporting director and the coach to make decisions regarding these matters.”
All of which suggests Barca aren’t thinking of spending on a Gavi replacement, probably because there really isn’t much wiggle room financially. The Catalans are also thought to be keen to bring a move forward for Vitor Roque this winter which may take priority.
