The rumors are hotting up

Chelsea are reportedly set to rival Barcelona for Nico Williams after missing out on Michael Olise to Bayern Munich.

Gianluca Di Marzio reports Chelsea are “banking heavily” on landing the Athletic Club star this summer as they prepare for the 2024-25 season under new boss Enzo Maresca.

The Blues had wanted to land Olise from Crystal Palace, but the Frenchman is expected to complete a move to Bayern Munich shortly instead.

Chelsea have already beaten Barcelona to the signature of Messinho and now look set to rival the Catalans for another transfer target.

Barcelona continue to be heavily linked with a move for Williams despite the club’s continued financial issues.

Williams is thought to have a release clause in his contract set at around €55 million, and he’s been impressing with Spain at Euro 2024.

Barcelona have plenty of work to do if they are able to bring in players this summer but are hoping to be able to work under the 1:1 rule again in the summer transfer window.
