The midfielder scored twice on Saturday

Spain boss Luis de la Fuente was happy to praise Pedri after the Barcelona midfielder scored twice in a friendly win over Northern Ireland on Saturday.

Pedri’s goals were his first in Spain colours and will give the youngster a big boost ahead of this summer’s European Championship.

De la Fuente also feels Pedri will benefit from scoring and says Spain haven’t seen the best of the midfield star yet.

“Pedri needed to meet Pedri again. He’s a very important footballer. I’m sure he’s going to give us very good things,” he told reporters.

“I have always spoken about him from a point of confidence, from that figurative sense. We don’t know what his best version is because he’s so good ... We just hope that he acquires that confidence to develop his full potential. It has to be the footballer who takes the step forward, to do those things that only he can do.”

Pedri played in a more advanced position against Northern Ireland, with De la Fuente explaining why he wants the Barca star further forward.

“With us he has another responsibility than what he may have in his club. We want him to play closer to the area, to play between the lines, to take advantage of the last pass and the shot. We like him in that position,” he added.

The win was a good send off for Spain who now head to Germany and an opening group game against Croatia.
