Barça could sell “important” player to sign Dani Olmo - report
A new report claims the Blaugrana might take drastic measures to bring one of their main targets
Barcelona seem determined to reinforce their attack in the summer transfer window, with Nico Williams undoubtedly their main target. But another name that’s been heavily linked with the Blaugrana is Nico’s Spain teammate and former La Masia star Dani Olmo, who is expected to leave RB Leipzig this summer and appears to favor a return to his childhood club.
And according to a new report by Gerard Romero, Barça’s interest is strong enough that the club is willing to part ways with a key member of the current squad to fund a move for Olmo.
Here’s what Romero’s said: “I’m not going to say a name, but today there were two representatives who gave me the name of a Barça player who could be put on the market in the event of Dani Olmo’s arrival, and I didn’t expect this name. Are we really ready for the arrival of Dani Olmo and the departure of someone important? It would worry me.”
Romero has enough of a track record reporting on Barça to make this new report at least believable, but the lack of a name opens the door for even more speculation. The usual names of Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde and Frenkie de Jong will pop up, but Romero seems to indicate someone who seems “untouchable” could be on the market if the right offer arrives to allow Olmo to be signed.
Could that be Pedri, or Ilkay Gündogan, or Robert Lewandowski? All three appear key pieces of Hansi Flick’s plans, but the new Barça coach certainly knows Olmo from this time in the Bundesliga and might be in favor of a move due to Dani’s age.
Only time will tell if there’s any truth to this rumor, but it’s certainly one to watch. Olmo fits the profile of a classic number 10 who can also play on the wing, which would be an excellent fit if Flick moves to a German-style 4-2-3-1 formation. His past with Barça and his great talent shown in Euro 2024 make him an obvious target, but Barça need money to make his signing a realitiy.
And that money might have to come from a player they don’t really want to sell.
