Time for a new start

Barcelona were back for pre-season on Wednesday as the players returned for medical checks ahead of the start of the 2024-25 campaign.

The club showed off the players arriving bright and early, with injured duo Gavi and Frenkie de Jong sharing an embrace.

New boss Hansi Flick is short of first teamers to work with at the moment due to the Copa America, Euro 2024, the Paris Olympics and of course injuries.

De Jong, Gavi and Alejandro Balde are still on the injured list, leaving Flick with Vitor Roque, Clement Lenglet, Inigo Martinez, Oriol Romeu, Inaki Pena, Pablo Torre, Ansu Fati, Julian Araujo and Alex Valle.

However, there are a host of youngsters joining the first team for checks as Flick looks at the talent at his disposal.

Hector Fort is expected to be promoted for the new season with Marc Casado and Mika Faye, while Marc Bernal and Noah Darvich are among those hoping for chances.

Youngsters Ander Astralaga, Andrés Cuenca, Guille Fernández, Toni Fernández and Gerard Martin were also spotted at the Ciutat Esportiva on Wednesday.

Barcelona will start their pre-season tour of the United States on July 30 against Manchester City and then go on to face Real Madrid and AC Milan.
