There are a few reasons.....

Ilkay Gundogan’s future at Barcelona has suddenly become uncertain in the final weeks of the transfer window.

There have been whispers all summer about a possible exit, but Gundogan has regularly insisted he wants to stay.

The rumor mill came up with a fresh rumor ahead of Barca’s win over Valencia, claiming he’d asked to leave, and Hansi Flick was forced to speak about the midfielder after the game.

Gundogan sat out the match after suffering a head cut in the Gamper Tropy and Flick was forced to admit he has spoken to the midfielder about his future. The coach didn’t want to reveal too much but did say he “had the feeling that he will stay.”

So what’s happened? Diario Sport claim to know a few reasons why Gundogan has suddenly decided to recosider his future.

The German is said to be having doubts about his role not least because of the arrival of Dani Olmo. Barca also have Pedri fit again and available, meaning Gundogan may not have the same importance as last year.

It’s also noted that Barca would have no problems registering Olmo if Gundogan were to depart. Gundogan is said to be well aware of this and knows his departure would lighten the load financially.

Sport claim Gundogan discussed all these issues with Flick and could potentially leave for free, most likely to a Turkish club. If he does move, Gundogan wants to “end his time at Barça as a gentleman” but a final decision doesn’t appear to have been made yet.
