Will the goalkeeper start?

Wojciech Szcesny has said he’s “ready” to play for Barcelona ahead of Sunday’s La Liga clash against Sevilla.

The Poland international has been in training for the last few weeks after coming out of retirement and is now aiming to make his debut with the Catalan club.

“Yes, I’ve been preparing these two weeks to be ready. If I play or not it’s the manager’s decision that I have to respect. But I’m training to play the game and, mentally, I’m already ready,” he told TV3.

“Of course, the first days were hard from a physical point of view and especially the goalkeepers who work alone and it is not very fun. But this week when I joined the group it has already been very fun and stimulating because you play games and joke with your teammates.”

Barcelona have a tough week after the game against Sevilla, with Bayern and Real Madrid up next, but Szczesny is relishing the challenge.

“In the end all the games are a test because championships are not won or lost by one game. We are facing two ‘top’ teams in Europe, but Barça is also a top team at continental level,” he added.

“It will be a good challenge, but the most important thing is the victories because they promote good relations in the squad and give you an advantage in the classification and that’s why they will be important games.”

It remains to be seen which goalkeeper Flick will go for when Barca return to action. Inaki Pena has been deputising since Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s injury but is not guaranteed to keep his place now Szceszny is match fit.
