Brazil boss confirms Raphinha taking over penalty duties from Vini Jr
The Barcelona star is the new man for the job
Brazil coach Dorival Jr has confirmed that Barcelona forward Raphinha has been handed penalty-taking duties for the national team.
Raphinha, who scored a brilliant free-kick in a 1-1 draw against Venezuela last time out, has been handed the responsibility after Vinicius Jr missed from the spot during that game.
Here’s what Dorival Jr had to say at his pre-match press conference.
“Raphinha and Vini were prepared for the penalties. It ended up happening that he (Vini) took the penalty, and if there is a penalty tomorrow, Raphinha will be the one taking it.
“What I see is that you only mature with experiences, going through situations in your life and career. It is the athlete who has to find the way individually. And collectively we, the technical committees, are there to help them.”
Brazil take on Uruguay next in World Cup qualifying. Argentina currently top the standings on 22 points, Uruguay and Colombia are next on 19 and Brazil down in fourth with 17.
