The stopper could end up staying
Barcelona are reportedly considering renewing Wojciech Szczęsny’s contract at the club after he replaced Inaki Pena in the starting XI.
The veteran came out of retirement last year to sign for the Catalans after first choice stopper Marc-Andre ter Stegen was ruled out with a long-term knee injury.
Szczesny was back-up initially but has now been installed as the club’s new No. 1 and has taken over from Inaki Pena.
According to Diario Sport, Barca are now considering offering him a new contract which could see him stay at the club for another year.
The plan would be for the 34-year-old to act as Ter Stegen’s back-up next season after the German returns from his injury lay-off.
Barcelona’s plan is said to depend on Szczesny’s performances for the rest of the campaign, but it’s thought he would be willing to continue for another season.
