Pedri reveals what Flick told him at the start of the season
The coach had a clear role in mind
Pedri has revealed how Barcelona manager Hansi Flick told him to take a “step forward” this season and “dominate the midfield” following his arrival as Xavi’s replacement.
The midfielder has gone on to enjoy a superb season for the Catalans and also seems to have put his injury problems behind him.
Pedri says he’s loving playing an influential role and orchestrating Barca’s play.
“He told me that he wanted me to dominate the midfield,” he told EFE.
“There are a lot of young players and because of my experience I should be one of the leaders. I like being that, it’s a role that doesn’t scare me, not at all. I simply want to face it to try to help Barça win titles.
“I really like this position because I’m in contact with the ball, I touch the ball a lot, the game goes through me. I feel more comfortable and I’ve learned how to position myself better in defensive tasks.”
Pedri has played in all but one of Barcelona’s La Liga fixtures so far this season and should be back in the starting XI again on Monday when Flick’s side return to action against Rayo.
