Barca told Osasuna’s Inigo Martinez appeal ‘has no viability’

An expert has shared his view
Barcelona’s 3-0 win over Osasuna in La Liga on Thursday has been somewhat overshadowed by their opponents’ decision to launch an appeal, claiming Inigo Martinez was ineligible to play in the match.
Martinez was back in action after pulling out of Spain duty with a knee injury. Osasuna felt he should not have played because the game came less than five days after Spain’s last game against the Netherlands which is against FIFA rules.
Former Barcelona presidential candidate and vice-president Toni Freixa, who is also an expert in sports law, has shared his thoughts and thinks there’s no case to answer.
“Osasuna’s challenge has no viability because the Spanish Federation called up Iñigo Martínez, took out a note and even called up another player,” he told Sport.
“Therefore, Inigo Martínez was no longer called up at the time he claimed an injury and the Federation accepted it.
“The five famous days cannot be counted from the last match of the Spanish national team because Inigo was not called up for these two Nations League matches.”
Barcelona are also said to have been well aware of the rule and took legal advice before the game, with Hansi Flick then given the OK to field Martinez in the match.
