Hansi Flick has been full of praise for Inigo Martinez who has been a virtual ever present this season for Barcelona.
Martinez has forged a strong partnership with Pau Cubarsi in the heart of the backline and appears to be first choice - even after Ronald Araujo’s return to fitness.
Flick was full of praise for the veteran ahead of the weekend’s clash with Leganes.
“Iñigo, he’s adapted and is performing at an incredible level,” he told reporters.
“He’s an absolute leader and gives everything for this club; he’s a great example for the rest. What he’s done has been fantastic.”
Martinez had been in the final year of his contract but has had his deal extended for another year after a stellar campaign.
He won his first title with Barca in the winter at the Spanish Super Cup but will be hoping for more titles with Flick’s side still in contention for three trophies.
