‘We talked about it’ - Flick says Barça could play La Masia XI in final two games

The coach discussed the possibility of playing some of his youngsters
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick discussed the possibility of playing a La Masia XI in the final two games of the season after wrapping up the La Liga title against Espanyol in midweek.
The Blaugrana clinched the league title and a domestic treble with two games to spare, and Flick spoke in a press conference on Saturday about giving minutes to reserves and youngsters after a long and grueling season for his most common starters.
Hansi even hinted at the chance of playing a starting lineup consisting of eleven players who come from the academy in Sunday’s match against Villarreal, but said that a decision won’t be made until the day of the game.
“We’ve talked about it, but haven’t decided yet. It could be an option. But we’ll have to wait until tomorrow, and we’ll decide then.”
Given the current La Masia players available, an academy-only XI would consist of Iñaki Peña in goal; Héctor Fort, Eric García, Pau Cubarsí and Alejandro Balde or Gerard Martín at the back; Marc Casadó, Gavi and Fermín López in midfield; and Lamine Yamal, Ansu Fati and Dani Olmo as a false nine up front.
It would certainly be awesome to see that lineup to pay homage to Barça’s academy and the club’s commitment to creating their own homegrown starts, but we’ll have to wait for Flick’s teamsheet to be revealed an hour before Sunday’s game.
