The German has very few exit options available

The future of Marc-André ter Stegen will certainly be a hot topic over the summer as Barcelona have clearly made the decision to move on from the German goalkeeper with the signing of Espanyol’s Joan Garcia earlier this month.

Ter Stegen has two years left on his deal and is currently not interested in leaving the club, but an exit might be the best option if he wants a regular starting spot in a World Cup year. Barça are even willing to agree a contract termination, but as it stands their desire is to sell and earn at least some profit on the player to boost their salary cap situation.

Finding a dancing partner for a transfer won’t be easy, however. According to a new report from Diario SPORT, Ter Stegen’s market is “shrinking” as clubs around Europe who could be interested in Ter Stegen are hesitant to make a deal due to the player’s high salary.

Teams like Monaco, Manchester City, Chelsea, AC Milan, Bayer Leverkusen and Galatasaray are all mentioned as possible destinations for Ter Stegen, but all of them have concerns over a potential move due to the financial commitment needed to secure his signing.

A contract buyout from Barça could make a deal easier as Ter Stegen would then become a free agent having just received a fat check from his former club as part of the agreement, but even that is not a realistic possibility as of this moment given the German’s desire to stay.

Negotiating Ter Stegen’s exit is a crucial piece of Barça’s summer business, and achieving that goal will certainly not be easy.
