A move looks less likely now

Ronald Araujo has been one player tipped to leave the club this summer if a big sale is needed but it looks like he will indeed be staying.

The defender’s release clause dropped to €60 million in the first two weeks of July, a tempting price tag for any interesting parties, but none have been forthcoming.

There were a few whispers that Juventus could try again for Araujo, but the Turin giants have made no move and the Uruguay international’s release clause has now expired.

The situation therefore suggests that Araujo will continue with Barca and will fight to regain his place in the starting XI.

Hansi Flick’s preferred center-back pairing has been Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez, meaning Araujo has had to fight it out for minutes along with Eric Garcia.

Cubarsi and Martinez look set to start the season as first choice again, unless injuries intervene, and Araujo will have to work hard to oust either from the side.
