Ter Stegen unwilling to leave Barça ‘at least until January’

The goalkeeper is determined to fight for his place
Marc-André ter Stegen has returned early from his vacation and is determined to prove he is still Barcelona’s number one goalkeeper, and is not willing to depart the club this summer.
According to a report from Diario SPORT, Ter Stegen, who arrived at the club on Thursday to begin his pre-season preparations, will not leave Barça “at least until January” when he’ll be fully focused on playing regular football to make sure of his place as Germany’s number one in the 2026 World Cup.
The club captain is set for a talk with Hansi Flick to find out what his future looks like, but he wants to prove he is better than all available options, including new signing Joan Garcia. Barça’s current plan is to sell Ter Stegen but they haven’t received any meaningful offers, though there is still an option to terminate the player’s contract.
But the report says Ter Stegen will not accept a contract termination unless he receives the full amount owed to him over the remaining three years on his deal, and he knows Barça would like to negotiate for a lower number given their salary cap concerns.
This promises to be quite the soap opera over the summer, with Barça clearly wanting to move on from a player who does not want to leave. Expect many more twists and turns to this story.
