Pau Cubarsi to switch squad number at Barcelona?

Pau Cubarsi has been wearing the No. 2 shirt at Barcelona but could be set to change, with Inigo Martinez on the brink of completing a move to Al-Nassr.

Martinez’s departure will free up the No. 5 shirt and it seems it could be heading Cubarsi’s way. La Liga certainly seems to think so and has Cubarsi listed as Barcelona’s No. 5 on its official website.

The No. 5 has been worn by some pretty stellar names in the past. Carles Puyol and Sergio Busquets are just two of the legends to have used the number in the past. Cubarsi could now be added to that list in time for the 2025-26 La Liga season.

Interestingly, goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen also appears on La Liga’s website without a number. The goalkeeper has been sidelined through injury and it’s not clear yet when he will be available to play again.

Summer signing Joan Garcia wore the No. 1 shirt in pre-season for Barcelona but it’s not been confirmed yet whether he will be handed the shirt on a permanent basis or not.
