‘He’s a good option’ – Hansi Flick reveals what he’s expecting from João Cancelo at Barcelona

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick revealed that new signing João Cancelo will be available to make his debut on Thursday’s Copa del Rey Round of 16 tie against Racing Santander.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, the coach was asked about the Portuguese full-back, who has been signed on loan until the end of the season, and said he will get minutes against Racing and is expecting tons of good contribution from Cancelo, especially in an attacking sense.

“I think he can play a few minutes in Santander; we’re hoping he can play a few minutes.

“In Saudi Arabia we decided what we need now. We’re very happy with Cubarsi, Eric, the return of Araujo, Gerard can play in different positions, and we’re thinking about someone who could give us a little more, and João is fantastic and can give us a lot, also in attack, in the final third to overcome the opponent, and he’s a good option in this sense.”

Flick wanted a center-back in January but quickly realized Cancelo was the only realistic signing to be made in what is always a tricky window, especially given Barça’s financial issues, but Barça fans can fully trust Hansi to figure out a way to use João in a way that will help improve the team.
