Lamine Yamal not thinking about Ballon d’Or and focused on ‘important moments’ for Barcelona
Lamine Yamal says he’s not thinking about winning the Ballon d’Or and is instead focused on doing his best for Barcelona this season.
The teenager finished second behind Ousmane Dembele in the rankings for the 2025 Golden Ball and has been tipped by many to go on and become a serial winner of the prestigious prize.
However, Yamal has told Mundo Deportivo it’s not something that’s on his mind right now.
“I don’t think about it. It’s an award that, if you’re thinking about it, you won’t have an answer. It depends on what you win, how you play, who votes; it’s not something decided by your performance. I just want to enjoy myself and win with Barça and the national team,” he explained.
Barca have already claimed the Spanish Super Cup this season and are still in the mix in La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League.
Yamal, who is in a rich vein of form right now, knows he needs to step it up as the business end of the season approaches.
“Now the important moments are coming and this is where the quality players of our team have to step up. I’m enjoying this moment and I’m going for more,” he added.
“My game isn’t based on [goals]. It’s true that it creates controversy because when I play well it’s because I don’t score, and when I score it’s because I don’t play well, but I want to play well, for the team to win, and to keep going like this.”
Yamal has been involved in 33 goals in his last 37 appearances for Barcelona, scoring 18 times and providing 15 assists.
