Joan Laporta says Robert Lewandowski ‘deserves’ new contract at Barcelona
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has spoken out about Robert Lewandowski’s future at the club and says that he deserves to continue.
Laporta has already said that he’s willing to offer Lewandowski another year and has now hinted that the club will try to keep the veteran at the club.
“Lewandowski deserves a contract extension because he wanted to come here. If he wants to stay, understanding his role, we will offer him a renewal,” he told RAC1.
“With Ferran and Lewandowski, the position is covered, but if we have to sign someone, we’ll do it. Harry Kane would be the same age as Lewandowski was when he arrived.
Lewandowski has said he doesn’t feel any pressure about making a decision on his future, explainng he will give himself “around three months to decide” what to do.
A new center-forward had appeared to be Barcelona’s priority his summer, but it seems a new defender – potentially Alessandro Bastoni – may be the focus instead.
