Barcelona star Raphinha has apologised for a gesture aimed at Atletico fans in the wake of Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final second leg clash in the Spanish capital.

Raphinha was spotted gesturing at home supporters after the final whistle and seemingly telling fans they would be knocked out in the next round of the competition.

The Brazilian, who was forced to sit out both games due to injury, has now responded on social media and explained his actions.

“I apologize for my gesture, which does not correspond with my values or my character. It was an act committed in a tense moment, in response to a fan who was disrespecting me,” he posted.

Raphinha was also extremely critical of the refereeing after the match, claiming his team were “robbed” against Diego Simeone’s side.

Those comments could still land him in hot water, with local reports suggesting UEFA could sanction him for his outburst.
