Luis Enrique on Supercup loss: "We competed and made a huge effort"

Barcelona was unable to pull off a miracle on Monday night, but the players have done the coach proud.

Manager Luis Enrique wasn't in a celebratory mood following the second leg draw against Athletic Bilbao on Monday, which meant losing the Spanish Supercup to the Copa del Rey runners-up, but he did compliment his men for leaving everything on the field, especially in the second half after Gerard Piqué was sent off. He also looked ahead to the La Liga campaign, which starts on Sunday against Athletic Club themselves.

Here's a few highlights from Lucho's press conference:

"I think they played very well. They got Athletic doubting and I could see our opponents were starting to worry. That’s we were after in this game. We competed and made a huge effort.

"But it all ended when Gerard Piqué was sent off. I can only say well done to Athletic for such a fine performance. Sometimes it’s good to lose in order to appreciate how hard it is to win.

"The team is united and competitive. There is a very tough league campaign ahead of us. We want to keep bringing joy to the fans and we want to carry on being a team that sets standards around the world."
