Iniesta on Supercup loss: "It's a shame we let a title slip away"
Barcelona lost the chance of the second sextuple in club history after squandering the Spanish Supercup to Athletic Bilbao, and the club captain is disappointed.
Following the draw on Monday that caused Los Leones to celebrate a title at Camp Nou, Andrés Iniesta, who gave everything he could in the game, talked to the press and clearly stated that his team really wanted to turn the result around despite it not being a very important trophy. The Blaugrana legend also complimented Bilbao for winning the title, and looked forward to the new season.
Here's a few highlights from his answers to the media:
"We tried everything. It is a shame because we let a title slip away, but on Sunday we’ll be just as keen to get started in La Liga and try to have a great season.
"But let’s not confuse things. We should congratulate Athletic and lift ourselves for what we hope will be a wonderful season… In December we’ll be competing for the Club World Cup, and that would be a fifth title.
We got the game going at a fast pace in the first half and managed to create some clear chances. We needed to get another goal, but when Piqué was sent off, it got so much more complicated".
