Report: Barcelona reject deadline day offer for young left-back
Turns out there was some activity going on in Barcelona during the last day of the summer transfer window.
According to reports from Catalan radio rac1, there was a last-minute offer from Levante UD to sign Barça B full-back Alejandro Grimaldo, which was rejected by the player and club president Josep Maria Bartomeu. The Frogs reportedly offered a season-long loan deal with an option to buy at the end, but that did not please the Blaugrana and there were no further talks.
The 19-year-old is the current Barça B captain, and even though he's currently playing the third division with the youth team, he wants to get his team back to the Segunda and earn a spot in the senior squad with his performances. Grimaldo is highly rated, especially by fans, and many think he can be the next Jordi Alba for the club. His versatility also allows him to play at midfield, which earned him comparisons with Bayern Munich star Phillip Lahm.
There was some talk regarding his alleged promotion due to the rumors of backup left-back Adriano Correia leaving Catalonia, but that never happened and Grimaldo stayed with the B team. And he will stay despite approaches from a La Liga side.
