Barcelona unhappy with Ronald Araujo injury after Uruguay ignore warnings
Ronald Araujo has sustained an injury ahead of World Cup 2026 with Uruguay which has led to criticism from the player’s brother and frustration at Barcelona.
Mikael Araujo posted on Instagram “Thanks for injuring players just days before the World Cup!” in a pointed message to the national team, while Barcelona are also unhappy at the situation, per Sport 890.
The defender arrived for international duty with a known calf issue and Barcelona warned the national team that he should train separately to avoid any problems.
However, it seems that Araujo ended up doing double sessions with the rest of this team-mates which made the injury worse. Araujo did decide to stop and then jetted back quickly to Barcelona for treatment.
Barcelona are said to be baffled as to why Araujo was not handled with more care, while the player’s decision to go back to Barca for treatment is said to be because he’s lost confidence with Uruguay’s medical staff.
Araujo is now a doubt for Uruguay’s World Cup opener but the hope is will be able to feature in the other games against Cape Verde and Spain.
