Why Raphinha was given a rest in Brazil training ahead of Haiti clash
Barcelona star Raphinha was one of four Brazil players who were given a breather on Monday as Carlo Ancelotti’s side trained ahead of their next group game against Haiti.
Brazil opened up their tournament with a 1-1 draw with Morocco but will be gunning for all three points when they return to action on Friday.
Raphinha, Gabriel, Bruno Guimaraes and Neymar were all rested ahead of match, per Globo. Neymar is injured, Gabriel and Guimaraes fatigued and Raphinha has blisters on his feet and turned up without his boots on.
Brazil still have several days of training before the match, giving the players time to rest and recover ahead of their second match.
Yet Barcelona will surely be relieved to see Raphinha being handled with care, particularly after seeing him ruled out for several weeks with a hamstring injury picked on international duty earlier in the season.
Raphinha admitted at the start of the tournament that he’s still not at his best best physically but had done all he could to reach the World Cup in the best possible shape.
“I had an injury that left me out for a month and a bit, without training, without playing,” he said. “But I have always tried to give my best in the treatment, in the club, to be able to reach 100% with Brazil.”
