Wolfsburg manager confirms Barcelona interest in Kevin De Bruyne

One of the most exciting playmakers in Europe could change clubs this summer, and Barcelona is rumored to be a candidate.

Wolfsburg superstar playmaker Kevin De Bruyne just finished a formidable season with his Bundesliga team, as the Belgium international was voted the best player in German football with his spectacular 10-goal/20-assist campaign for the Wolves, who won the German Cup and finished second in the league mainly because of the consistent brilliance by the 24-year-old.

Since last season, rumors have linked De Bruyne with several of the biggest teams in Europe, but the German team managed to keep hold of the player. With his breakout season, the former Chelsea man is almost certainly not going to stay, and one team has been the front-runner from the start: Premier League giants Manchester City, who have made a formal €65 million offer for the Belgian.

However, since the transfer window only closes in 20 days, Wolfsburg decided to wait around and see if any other European giants were interested. Turns out the two Spanish powerhouses have joined the race.

That's according to Dieter Hecking, De Bruyne's coach at Wolfsburg:

"Despite my esteem for Manchester City, I have to say that Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Barcelona have all expressed an interest in Kevin de Bruyne and there have been approaches for him.

"He will only leave if there is an extraordinary offer for him. I am not ruling anything out and we will listen to offers, but in reality we could allow him to leave for a huge offer."

The interest from Bayern there is nothing surprising, since the Bavarian club has a policy of acquiring the biggest stars from the rest of Bundesliga, turning the German league into a one-team competition. Real Madrid is basically interested in everybody, and they don't even care that James Rodríguez and Isco are two very, very, very good players that play in the same position as De Bruyne.

But the fact that Barça not only is interested but have also -- all according to Hecking -- approached the Wolves is very, very surprising. Tactically speaking, it's not a good fit -- Barça don't play a 4-2-3-1, and De Bruyne excels as the man behind the striker --, but the kid is so good he could play anywhere in the midfield.
