Luis Enrique hopes team has learned its lesson
The head coach expresses deep optimism and confidence that his squad will get back to scoring goals; he admits that defensive improvement is a must
Luis Enrique appeared Friday in the pressroom at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper to talk about Saturday's match against Las Palmas at Camp Nou. Without much time to analyse the last game against Celta, the Barça skipper said he hopes "the loss in Vigo teaches us how tough it is to win." He said he was aware that the team needs to improve in many areas, but was cautious: "What we look at is how much offense the team generates. As far as effectiveness, it's been tougher for us than usual." Nevertheless, Luis Enrique wanted to be clear. "I have no doubt that it is a temporary issue," he emphasised. "The team will score goals."
He also said that the team has to improve defensively and give up fewer goals. He also defended his goalkeepers: "It would be very easy to call out individual errors, but we look at it as a team issue ... Goalkeepers don't give up goals [by themselves], the whole team does," he added.
After falling out of first place with Wednesday's defeat, Luis Enrique did not mince words. "Any position other than first is not what we want." Barça has the chance to get back on the winning path on Saturday at 4.00pm CET at Camp Nou. For the match against Las Palmas, the coach reported that Jordi Alba and Sandro RamÃrez both trained with the group and could be named to the squad. Luis Enrique also praised the contributions of Sergi Roberto: "He's a good option in midfield; we are not overloaded on the inside, and he might be back there."
