Rafinha and Barcelona discussing contract extension, says player's father

These are good times for Rafinha Alcântara. After winning his fourth title since joining the Barcelona first team and carving out a place in Luis Enrique's rotation, the Brazilian is getting a chance to play with his teammate Neymar Jr. at the Brazil national team's senior squad. On top of all of that success, he's getting a sweet new contract.

Some reports surfaced a while ago about Barcelona holding contract extension talks with the player, but nothing was ever confirmed by anyone close to the situation. But earlier this week, Mazinho, 1994 World Cup champion and father of both Rafinha and Thiago Alcântara, confirmed that his youngest son is indeed negotiating a new agreement:

"We are already negotiating the renewal of Rafinha. We've had 2-3 conversations. In principle there will be no problems for him to continue [with Barça]."

His current deal runs out next summer, and there was some concern within Blaugrana officials that perhaps Little Rafa was not going to remain at Catalonia, but there is a very good chance he's staying with the Treble winners until 2020, with a hefty increase in wages.

After starting in all but one of the team's five games so far this season, and his development since last year, he certainly deserves a raise.
