Transfer Rumor Merry-Go-Round: Barcelona’s Place in the Chelsea-Dortmund-Arsenal Deal

Aubameyang, Giroud, Batshuayi and... Aleix Vidal?

The big transfer story these days is the three-way swap between Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund, and Chelsea.

Arsenal want Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Dortmund, but the Germans will only part with him if they get their replacement, Dortmund want Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi to fill that gap, but Chelsea will only let him go if they can get Olivier Giroud from Arsenal.

It’s a standoff, though it seems all three parties will finally agree a deal soon.

Barcelona are following the developments with some interest, as well, because they play Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League. Chelsea’s original choice was Edin Dzeko from AS Roma, who would have been ineligible to play the games against Barça as he was cup tied.

Now, Barcelona’s rivals could be getting Giroud instead. Something to watch out for.

Plus there’s this tidbit from Xavier Muñoz writing in Mundo Deportivo: the fact that Roma did not sell Dzeko means they do not have to spend on a replacement for him, which means they could be interested in buying a winger. A winger, perhaps, such as Aleix Vidal, who’d be reunited with Monchi (Roma’s director, who signed Vidal to Sevilla back in the day.)

But would Barça let Vidal go with Gerard Deulofeu already gone to Watford?
