Barca must rest and come back stronger, says Iniesta

Andres Iniesta was not too disappointed after seeing Barcelona held to a goalless draw by Getafe on Sunday.

The midfielder was left out of the starting line-up, but appeared in the second half and like the rest of the team, was unable to break down a determined visiting side.

Although Barca’s unbeaten La Liga record remains intact, their lead at the top of the table has been cut to seven points.

However, Iniesta said these type of results happen over the course of a long campaign and say his team must now rest and analyse the game.

“It’s not that something was missing, we struggled to play with pace and continuity, but because of how the game went today.

“Getafe are always an uncomfortable side to play against and they don’t leave you that space to find that continuity. As the game went on, it was difficult and it proved impossible [to get the breakthrough], even though we tried until the end.

“These are the busy months of the season and we’re obliged to do well in all three competitions.

“There’s wear and tear and you always try to make sure these things like today don’t happen, but at the end of the day they do happen.

“We have to analyse the game, like always, rest and come back to compete next weekend.”

Barca have endured a pretty hectic fixture list since the winter break, but they will now get the chance for a short breather.

There’s no midweek fixture this week, so Barca are not back in action until next weekend when they travel to Eibar.
