Gerard Pique out for two weeks with knee injury, according to his grandfather
The fitness of Gerard Pique has become a concern after the centre-back reportedly picked up a knee problem towards the end of Barcelona’s 1-1 draw with Espanyol.
The injury comes at a bad time with Thomas Vermaelen also injured, Javier Mascherano having departed for China and Yerry Mina yet to play a single minute for his new club.
Barcelona will also be without Samuel Umtiti for Sunday’s visit from Getafe as he is suspended after picking up his fifth booking of the season against Espanyol on Sunday.
However, it seems as if Pique’s injury is fortunately not too serious and his grandfather Amador Bernabeu has said they are “talking about a couple of weeks maximum, but although he would like to play, I think he will rest two weeks,” according to Mundo Deportivo.
If that estimate proves corrrect then Pique will miss Valencia, Getafe and possibly Eibar but would be back in time to face Chelsea in the Champions League.
