Luis Enrique Has a “Serious” Chance of Coaching Chelsea - Report

But he is unlikely to be signed in time to lead the Blues against Barcelona

Former FC Barcelona player and manager Luis Enrique could become Chelsea’s newest boss, especially if the London club wants to get rid of Antonio Conte before the end of the season, according to Francesc Aguilar.

In his report in Mundo Deportivo, Aguilar says Luis Enrique is in “pole position” to replace Antonio Conte, especially if Chelsea need a replacement before the end of the season.

Aguilar writes that Conte will not be replaced prior to Chelsea’s meeting with FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League. However, columnists in England are urging the Blues to drop Conte and sign Lucho up as soon as possible.

Chelsea have started the year off poorly and recently lost 3-0 to Bournemouth. Conte is said to have had a falling out with the club management, and he’s rumored to be tempted to leave and become Italy’s next coach.

The Blues also took a look at Mauricio Pochettino, but the current Tottenham Hotspur manager seems to have ruled out joining any other London club. Another possibility is Max Allegri, who manages Juventus. But one key difference is Luis Enrique is without a club, and thus he’d be a replacement available immediately.

After winning the Champions League, among other titles, at Barcelona, Luis Enrique took a sabbatical. But, Aguilar writes, he’s looking to get back onto the bench for someone. The Spaniard is understood to have rejected offers from clubs in Serie A, but Chelsea could tempt him. Another rumored possibility for him is Paris Saint-Germain.
