Cillessen the Supercopa star as Dembele disappoints
Jasper Cillessen was the star man for Barcelona as Ernesto Valverde’s side lifted the Supercopa de Catalunya after beating Espanyol on penalties.
It was a pretty dull 90 minutes in truth with neither side able to manage a goal although Espanyol had the better chances and Cillessen was the busier goalkeeper.

Valverde named a fairly strong team with Yerry Mina, Denis Suarez, Andre Gomes, Aleix Vidal, Ousmane Demble and Paco Alcacer all starting.
Dembele started out on the left but also switched onto the right, although it’s fair to say he had very little impact on either flank.
This was an excellent opportunity for the 20-year-old to shine and really show what he could do, but he failed to take it and we saw very little of his quality.
He was replaced in the second half which at least suggests we may see him play some part in the weekend’s clash against Malaga, although on this evidence he has no chance of starting against Chelsea.
Cillessen, meanwhile, was easily Barcelona’s best player and made several great stops to preserve his clean sheet.
After 90 goalless minutes the game went straight to penalties and Cillessen was the star man yet again as his save from Jurado secured the victory.

It’s difficult to take too much from this game as it’s pretty much a friendly but there were some decent moments. Carles Alena looked bright, Barcelona’s penalties were spot on and we even got to see Yerry Mina’s dance moves.
