Does Celta Vigo Result Prove Ernesto Valverde Should Have Rotated More?

Something to think about

FC Barcelona’s quest for an unbeaten season, not to mention quest to extend their all-time unbeaten record in La Liga, continued with a 2-2 draw against Celta Vigo. Sporting a rotated side, Valverde’s men held their own against a side that has caused Barça problems over the years.

Aside from Marc-André Ter Stegen in goal and Nélson Semedo in defense, Barcelona did not start with any player who started either match against AS Roma in the UEFA Champions League. This team was highly rotated, and very young, and though they did drop points, they achieved an acceptable result.

The question for Ernesto Valverde now is whether this shows he should have rotated his team more often throughout the season. Sure, hindsight is 20/20 and all that, but to be fair, many were calling for him to do more rotation. The team looked sluggish as they crashed out of the Champions League.

Of course, other teams have rotated more and failed to continue in the Champions League. So it wouldn’t be a guarantee. Still, there’s something that will continue to gnaw at Valverde’s mind.

Regardless, now he has to look forward to confirming the league title and winning the Copa del Rey final.
