De Jong continues to impress but will make Barca wait
The midfielder plans to stay at Ajax
Barcelona’s interest in Ajax midfielder Frenkie De Jong has been well-documented this summer.
The 21-year-old has openly spoken about a potential move to Barcelona on a number of occasions. Most recently he has said he expects to stay unless an “absurd” offer arrives.
Ajax director of football Marc Overmars has offered his view by added he is “not for sale” and “not even for absurd amounts.”
Meanwhile, on the pitch he continues to sparkle as evidenced again in Ajax’s 3-1 win over Dynamo Kiev in Champions League qualifying on Wednesday.

The result puts Ajax in pole position to qualify for the group stages for the first time since 2014 - another big reason for him to stay another season.
After the game he was once again asked about the possibility of a move to Barcelona.
Again his response was that he would stay in the Netherlands this season “although Barça would be a big step in my career.”
De Jong has also been called into the Netherlands squad this week by manager Ronald Koeman who has no doubts over his quality.
“I do not think that is a surprise, because he is developing very well. He was obviously injured in previous situations, otherwise, he would have been called in that period, especially in the pre-selection.”

There’s just over a week left in the transfer market for Barcelona to do business, and reports have claimed they want one more player.
De Jong is looking like an increasingly perfect fit for Barcelona, but it seems he’s out of reach, for this transfer window at least.
