Robert on Dembélé’s lateness problems: “I ask myself how the news becomes public so quickly”

The former Barcelona technical secretary implies there are leaks within the club

Former Barcelona technical secretary Robert Fernández has spoken on Ousmane Dembélé’s situation on the show Noche de Champions. calling into question how details about the case leak so quickly. The player was fined for turning up two hours late for training. He apparently has had a chronic lateness problem, although he has apologized to his teammates.

Robert opined:

“The press is entertained with him oversleeping. Up to a point, it’s not even that bad. I have seen many cases of players that have overslept. What I ask myself is why the news gets out so quick. How’s it possible that these things become known so easily? I’m not saying that there is a campaign inside the club, but I believe that you have to protect the player. It’s true that he has made mistakes in a series of situations, but you have to defend him and try to take him to a better situation.”

Robert, who worked on the Frenchman’s signing before being let go this year, said that they “already knew that he slept, but we brought him over because he has amazing talents. It’s a problem that can be fixed.”

“There have always been footballers who oversleep,” he continued. “We are talking of a young player, a player who makes mistakes.”
