Barcelona meet with agents of Stuttgart’s Benjamin Pavard over summer transfer - report

The Catalans will face competition from Bayern Munich and Napoli

Barcelona are making a strong push to sign VfB Stuttgart’s Benjamin Pavard, according to Gianluca Di Marzio’s website. The World Cup winner has been linked with a move to Napoli since last summer. But now Barcelona have reportedly met with the lawyers and agents of the 22-year-old defender to plan a transfer this summer. Bayern Munich are also said to be interested.

Pavard has been deployed as a centerback in Stuttgart’s three-man line this season. However, he played as a right-back for France in their World Cup triumph, with Real Madrid’s Raphaël Varane and Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti playing the centerback roles. He scored one of the most memorable goals of the tournament against Argentina.

Barça have been linked with Ajax’s Matthijs De Ligt and Tolouse’s Jean-Clair Todibo as centerback reinforcements in the near future. Would the Catalans be interested in him purely as a central defender or do they see him as a right-back?
