Messi and Ter Stegen named in UEFA Team of the Year
The Barcelona duo make the cut
Barcelona duo Lionel Messi and Marc-Andre ter Stegen have both been named in UEFA’s Team of the Year for 2018.
The team was voted for by supporters and is dominated by players from the Spanish top flight.
Ter Stegen takes his place between the sticks after another superb campaign where he played a key role in Barcelona’s league and cup double win.
In defence Real Madrid trio Marcelo, Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos all get the nod alongside Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk.

Chelsea pair Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante feature in a three-man midfield with Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric.
Messi then takes his place in the attack alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe.
