Pique asked Valverde if he could stay up front during Lyon win

The defender was on the scoresheet in the 5-1 victory

Gerard Pique had an excellent match against Lyon in the Champions League this week.

The centre-back capped off a lovely game with a goal to help Barca reach the quarter-finals. It was his seventh goal of the season, highlighting the added value he brings offensively.

“When I saw Luis Suarez was tired I asked Valverde to keep me up front, but for now he’s not that confident in me, we’ll see in the future.”

If you had to pick a group of centre-backs to play striker if need be, Pique certainly makes that list.

The problem is you’d have to purely make him in an in the box striker, only capitalizing on crosses.
