Samper explains why he’s leaving Barca for Vissel Kobe
The midfielder is set for a fresh start
Sergi Samper says he “just wants to play football again” after saying goodbye to Barcelona on Tuesday and confirming he’s off to Japan to play for Vissel Kobe.
The 24-year-old held a press conference to say his farewells and spoke about why he’s decided to make the move to the Far East.
”This is a great opportunity. I want to prove myself, to see where I can get. I have a lot of confidence in myself and we’ll see what happens in the future.
“I’m not afraid to leave, but I have respect for Barça, and I will never forget where I came from. I carry the Club in my heart
“They called me to ask and it sounded quite interesting. I’ve spoken to Andrés Iniesta several times and he told me the league is very technical and that I would have fun there.
I’ve also spoken to their president, Hiroshi Mikitani, as well as their vice president and technical director. I’m really motivated and excited.”

Samper will link up with Andres Iniesta and David Villa at Vissel Kobe, while former Germany international Lukas Podolski is also part of the squad.
Let’s hope he can have an injury-free run and enjoy playing football again during his time in Japan.
