Barcelona’s move for Antoine Griezmann hits a snag - report

Financial issues have complicated the deal

Barcelona were expected to complete a deal for Antoine Griezmann this week, but the club have reportedly hit a few financial issues which are causing a bit of a problem.

According to AS, the plan was to pay Griezmann’s release clause on Wednesday, present him on Friday and get him to join up with pre-season training with the team on Monday.

The problem is Barcelona do not seem to have the finances in place to actually pay for Griezmann this week, hence why they tried to negotiate with Atletico and defer payment.

That of course has backfired with Atletico getting all riled up and issuing a statement accusing Barcelona of being disrespectful.

All of which means that Barcelona will need to pay Griezmann’s release clause now in one go if they want him but the report reckons they are unable to do so.

In fact it goes on to say that the club’s financial issues have also seen “employees paid three days late for their June salary.”
