The German champions have joined the race for the Brazilian

Barcelona and Bayern Munich are negotiating a possible loan deal for midfielder Philippe Coutinho, according to multiple reports in Spain.

Despite the interest from Paris Saint-Germain and an increasing chance that the Brazilian gets included in a deal for Neymar, the German champions have looked at Coutinho as an option for the attack and contacted Barça about a loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.

Barça’s conditions to loan out Coutinho are a loan fee and a compromise from Bayern to pay the player’s salaries in full, which are similar to the wages Bayern offered Leroy Sané when they were interested in signing the Manchester City winger.

The reason why this rumor makes a lot of sense is that Bayern actually need Coutinho: they only have Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry and youngster Alphonso Davies as options on the wing, and Sané is unlikely to come now that he’s suffered a knee injury that will keep him out until March. Even if Bayern decide to come back for Sané next summer, they could have Coutinho as insurance for a season with the option to sign him permanently if he’s so good that Sané’s signing is no longer a necessity.
