De Jong: ‘We didn’t play well’ against Arsenal
The Dutchman is not happy with his or the team’s performance in the Joan Gamper Trophy
With every game Frenkie De Jong plays for Barcelona, we get to know a little bit more about his personality on and off the pitch. And after winning Most Valuable Player for his 45-minute performance in the Joan Gamper Trophy victory against Arsenal on Sunday, De Jong showed that he’s a very honest, self-critical player.
His comments about his own performance and the team’s output against the Gunners made one thing clear: he was not happy and he was not going to hide it. The one positive thing? The fans’ love for him and the team before, during and after the game.
“The presentation of the squad and the support from the fans in my debut at Camp Nou was very impressive.
“We did not play a good match. I believe we must have a better rhythm when circulating the ball and do a better job pressing after losing it.
“There are differences [between Barça and Ajax]. In both clubs we take care of the ball but the rest is very different.
“I did not deserve [the Gamper MVP award].
